Obituary of Valdemir "Val" Santhouse
Val Santhouse of Glastonbury died Sunday, April 22 at the age of 93. Val leaves behind the love of his life Joan, his wife of 71 years. He was father to 7, Dan (Renee) Santhouse, Sheila (Stephen) Wells, Sue (Patrick) Saxton, Robin (Mark) Leist, Tom (Patricia) Santhouse, Tim (Margaret) Santhouse, and Sandy (Douglas) McRae. Val was Grandfather to 17 and Great Grandfather to 11. He had a very special friendship with his sister-in-law and her husband, Judy and David Spencer. He also leaves his brother Robert and his wife June, many nieces and nephews. He was blessed to have friends for life, Joseph Danyliw, Dominic and Mary Roto and Bernie Brennan. Val joined the Army at 18 and became a tank driver in the 3rd Armored Division during WWII fighting in D- Day, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge and served until the end of the war. He began working at Pratt and Whitney and, after 35 years, retired as a Senior Engineer. He began bowling at an early age in his father’s lanes in N.J., continuing on a league for life, was a proud member of the Board of the CCBA, and was a member of the Glastonbury EMS. His passions were sailing, flying and motorcycles, and he and Joan had the opportunity to travel to many wonderful places for great adventures. He reached his goal of being retired more years than he had worked. He will be greatly missed by his family. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd.
