John Sutton posted a condolence
Friday, March 29, 2019
Dear Donna:
I am the member of the Yale Class of 1955 who writes letters of condolence to widows and families of our deceased classmates. Recently Dan Ward, our corresponding secretary, informed me of John’s death, and so I write to express our deep regret that you have lost your husband and we a friend.
I’m sorry that I didn’t know John at Yale. I looked him up in our class book and recognized him, but I do not recall our ever meeting, which is not surprising considering the size of our class and the fact that he and I lived in different colleges and majored in different subjects.
Nevertheless, I am a firm believer in John Donne’s words any man’s death diminishes me. The Class of 1955 is certainly diminished by John’s passing, and on behalf of the Class I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Sincerely yours,
John Sutton

I just read of John's passing in a recent Leadership of Greater Hartford's newsletter. I was sorry to hear this as he was such a nice man. I was in the same Third Age Initiative class as John. We did not have the same project but in some years after we would run into each other at LGH events. His caring and ready smile will be missed. I will keep the family in my prayers.

Donna, I am so sorry to hear about John's passing. He served those of us in the Hartford East Association so faithfully, and with such joy. I know God welcomes him with open arms, and an ever so sweet holy kiss of peace. I am sorry I cannot make the memorial service, as I am out of town. I know it will be a beautiful testimony to John's life. Peace and all good, MaryAnn Purtill

I knew John for many years when he volunteered with United Way. I always enjoyed talking with John and hearing so many of his great stories. I will keep your family and John in my prayers.

My name is Sandra J. Kidwell. My late husband was George Kidwell, the son of Paul Emerson Kidwell and Josephine (Travis) Kidwell. I did not know John personally but had heard his brother whom we called "Uncle Paul" speak of him. I send prayers and sympathy at the loss of John. He lived a full, rich and meaningful life. We grieve but not without the hope of eternal life. John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
Our daughter, Leah Ann Kidwell-Fernandes, did her graduate work at Yale and graduated in 2001 with a Master's of Theology.

Donna and family,
We were saddened to learn of John’s passing.
He was always such an enthusiastic, hardworking, positive guy!
He was a pleasure to work with at both IBM and First Church.
I had the good fortune of working at IBM Hartford Branch Office #179 with John during some exciting times in the 70s and 80s. Also, it was during that time that First Church experienced significant growth. You both were certainly a big part of that! All wonderful memories.
Sandi and I send our deepest condolences.
Sincerely,
Eric and Sandi Hakanson
