Glen was certainly one of the one of the many reasons I enjoyed my years with the Phoenix. We never worked on projects together. However, we enjoyed having a mathematical perspective. Lunch at the cafeteria was always, you know, stimulating, when Glen would sit down at my table and say something like "Hey I have a little math problem that you may find interesting. Now, don't take time away from your work, but check this out." And every one of those little puzzles was curious, with some complexity, and always with a result that was surprising and had a mathematically fun 'aha' moment... like a great joke that has a punch line you don't see coming. I don't know how many cafeteria hours we and several others discussed ocean tides and why high tides occur simultaneously on both sides of the globe. Glen was a true gentleman, a brilliant man, and a kind soul. RIP, Glen.

Glen always made me laugh and smile. He had way more energy than I had any day of the week (I'm 35) He would draw dinosaurs on the napkins at the Senior Center where I use to work and make everyone at the table laugh. I hope as I grow older I live with as much joy and wit as he did. He was a joyful brilliant man and I will miss him very much.

I worked for and with Glen for about two years through September, 1972. We worked together to develop a complex database management program. Without a moment's hesitation Glen was the best boss I ever had. He was a pleasure to work for and thoroughly professional and supportive in all respects. I was sad to learn of his passing today. My Deepest condolences.

I worked with Glen for over 30 years at Phoenix. I interviewed with him in 1978 and I was hooked. I knew Phoenix was going to be the place for me, and I knew I wanted to work with HIM. His positive outlook on life was just so pleasant to witness, and his brilliance helped me learn a great deal about the insurance industry and life in general. My condolences to John, Mark and his precious grandchildren - May he Rest In Peace.

We have known Glen for many years through his membership in the Greater Hartford chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). Glen, along with that wonderful PFLAG mom, Charlotte, was one of our most loyal members. He was also one of the most highly valued, always employing his unique sense of humor to bring something fresh, entertaining and endearing to his personal stories. His support helped the lives of many, known and unknown.
We will miss Glen’s happy presence in our lives.

I was saddened to learn of Glen’s passing and my heartfelt condolences to Mark and John and their families.
I was privileged to know Glen at the old Phoenix Mutual and I was among the recipients of his gentle jokes and humorous pokes. I always tried to respond in kind but I admit that I could never match his light touch, my attempts always a bit heavy handed. But I kept trying.
Glen struck me as a person who had figured out early what sort of person he wanted to be and what life he wanted to lead. Among my actuarial colleagues and, generally, in the Phoenix he was known as a man who walked to the beat of a different drummer.
The very hardest of the actuarial exams in our time was the Part 4: Life Contingencies. The classic textbook for this exam was Life Contingencies by C. Wallace Jordan, FSA. At the end of every chapter was a set of problems and, I if you could master the problems, you had a decent shot at passing the exam. Well, Glen wrote out the solutions to every problem in Jordan and the entire set was passed down through successive actuarial students and it helped many of us pass Part 4- I know they did me.
Among my many memories of Glen is his legendary prowess at the lunch table. We would occasionally sit together in the Phoenix cafeteria and I was always amazed at the food on his tray. A couple of main dishes, lots of bread, two rolls, milk, there was no end to it...and he never put on weight!
I will never forget Glen.

I worked with Glen at the Phoenix. He was just brilliant. He was so kind and funny and an amazing teacher. He taught me a lot about the systems he designed and made it all seem simple. I would run into him at the grocery store with his wife, Charlotte, and he was always smiling. I enjoyed seeing him write to the Glastonbury Citizen solving things and still being the Glen I knew at work. He lived his life well! I hope your happy memories help you with his loss.
