To Stew, Barbara, and Ginny,
My most recent memory of Judy is from our Daniel Hand High School class of 1964 50th reunion. Judy brought with her a folder of all the poems we had memorized in Chuck Collins's English classes. Judy, Jim Cassell, and I declaimed our favorites with great passion and verve. It was wonderful!
The most vivid memory I have of our high school days is from our freshman year Latin I class. Sadly, the teacher was woefully incompetent. We were eager and demanding students. We drove the poor man out and held an election to deputize a fellow student as the temporary teacher. Judy was our unanimous choice and she actually did a fairly reasonable job teaching the rest of the period. To our great delight, that Latin teacher did not return the following year; instead, we had the good fortune to welcome Nancy Girling as our new Latin teacher.
I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of this wonderful woman. I offer my heartfelt condolences to you and to all the members of Judy's family. We will miss her.
Sincerely,
True Fezer Wolff

Dr. Hofrichter delivered three of my four children. She was a lovely and wise person. I was quite fond of her and appreciated all the excellent advice and guidance she gave me on health, medicine, and life in general. I felt very cared for and so lucky to have had her as my ObGyn and have missed her a lot since her retirement. My sincere condolences to her friends and family. Rest In Peace, good Doctor.

Dear Stewart and the rest of Judy’s family it is with heartfelt sympathy that we learn of Judy’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Judy as a colleague at Manchester Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was very kind to her patients and had very special bonds with them. She was missed greatly by them when she retired. My wife and I enjoyed many an evening with Judy and Stew at physician social events. It is a passing of such a kind and thoughtful soul. Sincerely, Martin and Barbara Hancock

It was extreme good fortune to have Dr Judith as my physician. During a challenging time in my life, I believe she saved my life. It was my humbling honor to be able to tell her that as I had the opportunity to care for her. May she rest in peace

Oh dear, I am so very sad to hear this. Judy lived with our family for several years when she was a student at Pembroke. Our mother referred to her as her fifth daughter. I hadn't seen her in many years until she and Ginny came to Mom's funeral in 2017. It was a great pleasure to see her. She was not one whit different: Kind, intelligent, deeply interested in everything, and possibly the most straightforward person in the world. I'm sending huge sympathy for your sorrow. Much love to all, Mary Howe

My sincerest sympathies in your loss; I knew her as Doctor Judy and an excellent one at that, she never rushed through a single visit, always in tune with any concerns one would have. She had a interesting and varied life and left her mark on many, that is priceless. God speed

Judy and I shared a good deal during the years she lived in Middletown. There was the Good Harvest Food Coop connection, when, in the very early days, we were in the audience as Richie Havens came to town and did a spectacular benefit concert to help fund expansion of the fledgling hippie food outfit. She went on to be a coordinator and helped the business grow. Somehow my takeaway from that stint was that taught me how to wrap my cheeses so they wouldn't mold in the fridge. I'm sure her impact was far greater than that, though! And there were the years of living together communally on Brainerd Ave. near Wesleyan's campus. She was perpetually kind and tuned in to others. In her deliberate and steady way, she got things done and made thing happen. She brought Freud, her slightly weird cat, when she moved into Brainerd Ave, and the black and white only got in a few scrapes with the resident kitties, consisting of Quickdraw, CDK, and Kumquat. (It was, after all, not that far from the 60's.) I was always touched by her spirituality and her desire to make deep connections with others. That flame kindled and lit the spaces around her.
