Obituary of Mary M. Acunto

She tried to live life to its fullest. “Love like you have never loved before, live like every breath is your last, and dance like nobody is watching!” (SHE REALLY LOVED TO DANCE).

The beautiful but challenging life journey of Mary Moreau Acunto has not ended but merely changed on Friday January 20, 2023. She was born December 30, 1937 in Hartford, the youngest daughter of the late Conrad and Eva (Dione) Moreau. She always considered herself a simple person. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and parishioner of St. Dunstan Church in Glastonbury since its inception.  Mary was full of gratitude for her husband. Her children were incredibly loved by their mother who adored the uniqueness of each of the nine of them. Mary’s grandchildren brought her great joy with the time she spent with them and missed them when they were away. She was a faithful friend to many and always offered an open heart and a listening ear. She was devoted to her ministry in the St. Vincent de Paul Society where she spent a great deal of her time and talent volunteering in her mission to help those that are less fortunate. She was known to be kind to those she served.  Mary cherished her French heritage and will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for her twinkling eyes and radiant smile. She enjoyed teasing her husband Matthew about his Italian ways. He taught her to cook all kinds of delicious meals. She would say “I may cook like an Italian but remember I’m French.”

In addition to her husband Matthew, she leaves six children, Michelle, Michael, Patty her husband Fred, David his wife Cindy, Robert his wife Denise and Danielle and her husband Jasson. She was predeceased by her son Thomas and daughters Marie Therese and Theresa. Mary had 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Claire Walsh and her brother Robert Moreau and his wife Mary and her sister-in-law Nina Acunto.  She was predeceased by her brother Roger and sisters Helen Moreau and Annette Walters.

Her accomplishments and examples were many. She believed God would judge her as to how she led her life. She lived for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember and hope that they will appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in the past. She was not perfect, made mistakes but hoped that she had learned from them. Mary was always there for Matthew her husband and soul mate a very unique couple. They both worked for their children. She would say without Matt she could not reach her goals, he supported her in everything she did. Her faith in God, her religion and her extended family was always first. A deep debt gratitude for Masonic Hospice Health Care for their compassionate and professional care for Mary. A devoted staff of nurses, health aids, social workers, chaplains and massage workers, all made Mary’s last months happy and comfortable.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 28 at 10am in Ss Isidore Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Vincent de Paul Council, c/o Ron Nichols, Treasurer, 36 South Ridge Rd., Niantic, CT. 06357.
