Jay loved the outdoor life at Camp Mowglis every summer as well as encouraging the youngest campers to also enjoy the unique life Mowglis offered.. In fact It was Jay who influenced us to get into hiking so eventually we hiked all the 4000 footers in the White Mountains . His positive and kind comments often kept us going. Jay was also quick with a joke to make us laugh and it seemed he always had a poem or two to remember to fit the moment. That he was valedictorian of his class did not surprise us for he was a very smart man who was a kind and caring husband, father, friend and our brother-in-law.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of my old friend and colleague Jay. He truly did love the young people he taught. Many are the times that I heard his rejoinder to his students wishing him a good day: Don't have a good day--Make it a good day! He was indeed a positive force in the universe. My deepest sympathy to his family, especially you, Sandee.

It is with great sadness that we learned of John's passing and we write this condolence with a heavy heart . John and Sandee were at Acadia University when I was there in the 1960s. We have been dear friends for close to 57 years even though they were in Connecticut and we were in Nova Scoia and Prince Edward Island. And we were also closely tied to education as they were teachers and I was a school principal so it was natural to talk about our careers in education. John was an amazing friend over the years as there were always stories to tell and laughs to be had. His obituary that Sandee and his two children wrote tells so much about his unique character as he truly accomplished a great deal in so many areas of his life. Sandee and John made many trips to our Prince Edward Island cottage over the years and it was always a happy and joy filled time. John enjoyed poetry and provided so many poetic moments whenever we got together. But John always had his soulmate by his side and Sandee made our reunions so special with the many pictures that they took of their adventures in the US but around the world. John was a Christian along with Sandee and their faith and religious beliefs were always at the centre of their lives. He is with God now and in his holy hands but will never be forgotten today and forever. God Bless - Murdock and Connie Morrison

I have so many wonderful memories of my wonderful, sweet brother-in-law, Jay. Too many to list. Some things I see when I think of Jay is: Motion (he always seemed to be moving or active, whether telling a story, reciting a poem or going for a walk-jog; kindness, knowledge, humour, laughter and his love and dedication to his lovely wife, Sandee and children, Ian and Wendilea.
He will be missed by so many. Love you JAY. RIP.

Jay was such a vibrant, interesting person. I always enjoyed visiting or talking with him as we had so much in common -- love of learning, Nova Scotia, Acadia University (My grandfather was a graduate.), some mutual friends, a love of literature, especially poetry, First Church, and our Christian faith. I will miss his keen mind and engaging smile. He and Sandee led such a full life. It is hard to think that he is gone from our presence, but not our memories. My sympathy and love go out to his whole family who cared for him so well these last few years. Truly, he was blessed with a productive life and a very loving family.
Faithfully,
The Rev. Sally Brown
