Obituary of Kristin J. VanSkiver
Kristin J. (Paul) VanSkiver, 42, of Columbia, CT passed away peacefully at home on 5/23/23 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Adam VanSkiver.
Kristin was the daughter of David and Kathleen (Wright) Paul who raised Kristin on their family farm in Troupsburg, NY. Kristin was a graduate of Jasper-Troupsburg High School, where she met and started dating Adam. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and later her Master’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University.
In addition to her husband and parents, Kristin is survived by her sons Alexander and Gregory VanSkiver; brother Bryan Paul and his wife Carrie of AR; sister Amy Ebert of FL; sister Anne Cornell and her husband Jerry of NY; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Kristin worked as a history teacher at East Hartford High School teaching primarily to English language learners. She furthered her passion for teaching by coaching track and field at EHHS and later volunteering to coach her sons’ youth soccer and basketball teams. Kristin has passed on her love of reading, traveling and beaches to Alexander and Gregory.
Kristin’s bravery, strength, and kindness during the worst of times are an inspiration for all who knew her. Her smiles, laughter, friendship, and bedtime stories will be greatly missed.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Smilow Phase 1 Center. In particular, thank you to Dr. Michael A. Reale, the nurses and staff at the Regional Cancer Care Associates in Manchester, CT and Dr. Amanda Ayers, nurses and staff at the Colon and Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford. Your expertise, endless support, and tireless efforts gave Kristin years to make memories with her family that will be cherished forever.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
