George Joseph Poulin
Born March 28, 1932, said goodbye 9/1/2023 to all earthly connections and hello to our lord.
He leaves his wife of 70 years Toni Poulin, his Son James Poulin & his two sons Timothy and Matthew Poulin, his grandsons Paul Michael and his wife Kristy and their son Paul Michael Jr. and Christopher Poulin, his Sister Florence Jermello of Chimayo New Mexico , his Nephews Michael and Eddy Joe Poulin and their families ,Danny Poulin and his family Cindy Jagielski and her family, Sister in law Mary Isner and her family Robert and wife Karin , Toni Isner , Bruce Isner , Billy Isner Mike Isner Red Head Isner and their families and So many friends. He was pre-deceased by his Son Paul Edward Poulin , his Brother Joseph Poulin and his wife Joan, his brother Edward his wife Bella their sons Donald, Mark and Tommy , His sister Dolly Poulin , His brother in laws Many Ortez, Bob Roy.
George Started working at an early age during World War II delivering both the Hartford Courant and Hartford Times and sold Magazine’s door to door. George left School at age 16 and worked for the Plax Corporation. While working for Plax at the age of 18 he joined Local 354 of the IAM in Hartford, CT as a production worker at Plax. Not long after George Joined the union, he was elected Shop Steward and at 19 years of age, was elected President of his Local Lodge and served three terms. He was elected President of his district in the Hartford area. He later became a full-time district organizer.
In 1955 IAM headquarters selected George to be special staff organizer. Shortly thereafter, George became a Special Representative and then a Grand Lodge Representative assigned to the Northeast Territory. His responsibilities included organizing, negotiating contracts, processing arbitrations cases and handling IAM cases before the National Labor Relations Board. He also specialized in job evaluation and time study programs.
In 1977 George was elected to the office of IAM Genera Vice President. He served as Resident Vice President at IAM Headquarters in Washington DC from July 1977 to October 1, 1983, responsible for handling all administrative affairs on behalf of the International President on day-to-day basis prior to assuming his duties in the eastern territories.
George chaired the International Association of Machinist annual Electronics and New Technology Conference and headed the Unions collective bargaining team with General Electric, Westinghouse, Lockheed Martin as well as the American National, Silgan Corporation and Crown Cork & Seal can companies.
George was very active in New England political life on a local, state, and Congressional level. He was active in civic affairs including the Greater Hartford Council for Advancement o Economic Education; Charter Revision Committee in Glastonbury, CT; Democratic Town Committee in East Hartford and Glastonbury; and served as Justice of the Peace. George’s hobby was flying and held a private pilots License.
