Obituary of Anthony O. Senna

Anthony O. Senna, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of the late Cecile (LaMothe) Senna, died peacefully Thursday October 26, 2023, at the age of 96. He was born in Burlington, VT on June 10, 1927, to Walter and Nathalie (Russet) Senna. Anthony (Tony), attended Cathedral High School in Burlington as well as Burlington Business College in VT. His parents were musicians, surrounding him with music and often shared their talents by opening their home and gardens to the community. He spent time at his father’s barbershop and his grandfather’s farm in Williston, VT.   Anthony was drafted by the Lowell Red Sox farm team, but his baseball career ended as he entered the military to serve in WWII as a Navy Electronics Specialist. Returning to Vermont he married the love of his life, Cecile Marie LaMothe. They were married 63 years before her passing, raising 7 children, 16 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Anthony was a quiet and hard working man.  A lover of baseball, Anthony was an ASA Official for 50 years often umpiring in town. He ran a weekend roller skating business and he sold Fuller Brush at various times during the 37 years he worked at Pratt and Whitney. He returned to P&WA/ UTC and worked for another 8 years as a freelance consultant. Anthony was the pillar of our family, predictable in his work schedule and generous to all with his free time.  He was the silent type who had the answers from years of experience but waited patiently to share. When he spoke, we listened. He lived his life with honesty, kindness and patience. When challenges arrived, he would calmly advise and end with “Just keep going”. Anthony loved his canine companions. Starting with Tippycanoe, his boyhood water spaniel, and continuing with many throughout his life. Anthony had a special connection with dogs.  They just loved him. Anthony was a great man who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Anthony is survived by his 6 children and their spouses: Patricia & Leland Tripler of Manchester, Andrea and Michael Vail of Glastonbury, Steven & Lynn Senna of Bolton, Ronald and Donna Senna of Glastonbury, Sandra and William Jordan of East Haddam and David & Amy Senna of Coventry as well as 16 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Besides his wife, Anthony was predeceased by his son Michael, and his brothers Julius and Norman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 3rd at 10 AM in St. Paul Church 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery in South Glastonbury. Calling hours will be held 5-7pm Thursday, Nov 2nd at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation Inc, 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
