Obituary of Russell N. Shenstone
Russell N. Shenstone, 98, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Pina (Canepari) Shenstone, died Saturday, October 28, 2023 at home after a short illness.
Son of Elizabeth (Affleck) and Russell C. Shenstone of Glastonbury, Russ was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury. He graduated from Glastonbury High School and attended UCONN. He served in the US Army Air Force for four years during WWII as an airborne radio operator.
Russ and Pina married in 1949 and recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Russ is survived by his wife, sons Gregory (Laurel) Shenstone and Mark (Amanda) Shenstone, daughter Roxann (Christopher) Woods, and grandchildren Amelia and Andrew (Pauline) Shenstone, Esperanza Shenstone, Alec, and Logan Boyce. He was predeceased by his sister Janis Kinne and brother William Shenstone, and granddaughter Laurel Shenstone.
Russ’s long career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, where he worked in the Materials |Engineering Lab, spanned over thirty years.
Russ was a volunteer firefighter for So. Glastonbury Co. 2 for 37 years, and an active vestryman and religious educator at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in So. Glastonbury.
Russ greatly enjoyed ice skating --was a post-war member of the Glastonbury Blue Devils hockey team that played on an outdoor rink next to the Cider Mill. After retirement, Russ returned to the ice, learning ice dancing.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed meeting with his book group at the Welles Turner library over many years. He also enjoyed classical and opera music.
Russ became the family genealogist, spending many hours researching archives and unearthing hidden details of his ancestry.
Funeral services will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church, 2584 Main St., Glastonbury on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00AM. Calling hours will be held at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury Friday November 3 at 5-7PM. Burial will be private at Old Church Cemetery. Donations
