Obituary of June L. Owen
June L. Owen, long time resident of Glastonbury and Nantucket died at home on November 15, 2023 at age 93. She was born on June 10, 1930 to the late Raymond and Maude (O’Bryan) Legru. June was from Vermont. She was married for 71 years to Frank Owen and raised two loving daughters, Polly Owen of Glastonbury, CT and Jody Harris of San Francisco, CA. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, continued her education and studied painting at Hartford Art School, and became a very accomplished painter of still life and landscapes, winning several prizes and honors including: Chadwick Studio Interpretation Project, Florence Griswold Museum Connecticut Commission for the Arts Loan Program Connecticut Artists Invitational Exhibit, Slater Memorial Museum Pindar Gallery Invitational Exhibit, New York, NY, Childe Hassam Purchase Fund Exhibit, American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, NY. She was also awarded over 50 prizes in juried exhibitions including: National Academy of Design National Association of Women Artists Connecticut Watercolor Society New Haven Paint and Club Connecticut Academy. Her works were shown in many galleries June’s collections include New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT; Slater Memorial Museum, Norwich, CT; Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, CT; Old Lyme Historical Society, Florence Griswold Household Collection, Old Lyme, CT; Emhart Corporation Collection of Connecticut Artists; IBM; SNET; United Technologies; Liberty Mutual; Aetna Insurance; Price Waterhouse; Fleet Bank; Glastonbury Public Library; Danbury Public Library; Marriot; Allied Signal; Olin; Otis Elevator; Duracell and others.
