Obituary of Barbara Elaine Paradis
Barbara E. (Doody) Paradis,76 of East Hartford, widow of the late Percy Paradis, passed away Sunday December 3, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Presque Isle ME on February 21, 1947, daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Bartley) Doody, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1972. Barbara was a stay home mom until she went to work at Zayer's/Ames in E.H. as a cashier then later in payroll, where she met many friends whom she always stayed in contact with. She later was employed as a cashier at Shaw's in Glastonbury before retiring in 2009.
Barbara enjoyed weekly casino trips with Percy and her niece Sharon. She loved sitting out on the patio on bright sunny days. Barbara was known in the family circles as the "Jeopardy master". All tried but no one could beat her. There were many home card games when all the family would gather at her house. Throughout the years she enjoyed bowling and cookouts with neighbors and friends. Barbara was an avid reader and keeping her stocked with new books was always a chore. Christmas time was always special at her house. The family would gather there for the traditional Christmas feast she would prepare. Barbara was passionate about tennis and annually followed all the major tournaments.
She had a special bond with her daughter-in-law Tina. They spent many nights at the church bingo halls having fun and even winning sometimes. Most of all Barbara was a proud and very devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren, spending countless time supporting and nurturing them as they grew. She was always there for them in every way. Her love and guidance are evident in their lives today. Barbara was also blessed with a great grandchild who lit up her life with a simple smile. She was able to teach her "pattycake" at 9 months, which Barb adored, and some of her first words.
Barbara is survived by her son Jeffrey P. Paradis and his wife Tina of East Hartford;
three adored grandchildren, Jennifer Paradis, Danielle Paradis and her partner Mark Verrilli and Kevin Paradis; and her cherished great granddaughter Avia Paradis, all of East Hartford. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, former coworkers, and dear friends and neighbors, especially Sandi and Bruce and family who were so supportive of Barb. Besides her parents Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Percy, her daughter Michelle Paradis, both of East Hartford, a brother Paul Doody and sister Pheobe Ferguson, both of Florida.
