Obituary of Gloria P. Benson

Gloria P. “Glo” (Polyott) Benson, 94, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late, Burnal “Bob” Benson died December 6, 2023 at home. She was born September 10, 1929 to the late Arthur and Merta (Belle) Polylott in Manchester, Connecticut. Known to everyone as Glo, she worked in the service industry as banquet manager in multiple settings. Her eye for perfection and keen knowledge of etiquette rules, no customer was ever unhappy. Glo was an avid gardener, cook, and baker. Throughout her life she took on many challenges and always mastered them. Handknitting, homemade matching outfits for all her children, string art, macrame designs that were truly inspiring. Any craft she saw she would master. Crossword puzzles, word jumble and cryptogram she was one smart lady. If any of you knew Glo you may have received a card and a $2.00 bill or multiple cards, it was amazing how she never forgot a special event.  Her love of country music drew her and Bob to line dance starting somewhere around 1990 she was still dancing at her 90th birthday, how they loved to line dance! She is survived by daughter Karen Tavernier husband Dave, daughter Kris Benson, daughter Kim Beaver husband Rick and son Keith Benson wife Anna. Besides her husband, Glo was predeceased by daughters Kelly, Kaye and Kathy. If you didn’t notice all 7 children start with K. Glo’s pride and joy were her grandchildren great grandchildren and great great grandchildren but so many considered Glo as gram, grammie or GG how she loved that role. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 16 in South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes St., East Hartford at 11:15. Friends may call from 10am to 11am at the church.
