Obituary of Timothy J. Coburn

Timothy J. Coburn of Glastonbury, CT passed away on February 6th, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Tim was always proud of the fact that he was raised in Mayberry Village. He attended St. Rose School and East Hartford High School. Tim got his bachelor degree from the Business School at the University of Connecticut. Throughout his life, Tim was very active in a variety of sports, including football and pole vaulting.

After graduating from UConn, Tim gravitated towards the field of healthcare, where he had two similar, yet distinct, careers. Tim became a licensed administrator for skilled nursing facilities and eventually rose to become the Senior Vice-President of The Mediplex Group, based in Wellesley, MA. Tim’s second career involved him taking over “distressed” healthcare facilities, on behalf of the State of Connecticut Superior Court, the Federal Bankruptcy Court and private ownership entities. Tim’s two careers were made possible by the tremendous support provided by the extraordinary people he had the privilege of working with. Thank you all.

Tim was an avid golfer and a huge supporter of the UConn Athletic teams, especially the UConn Women’s Basketball team. He had a deep love for the ocean, especially Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, RI. That was truly his happy place.

Tim’s proudest accomplishment was the loving family that he was blessed to have. His loving, supportive wife, Susan, and daughter, Gabrielle, were the most important source of his pride and joy. Throughout their support and care, they saw him through many challenges he encountered during his life, especially during the last stages of his cancer. They were always there for him for support, forgiveness and encouragement. The strength that they both exhibited was amazing.

Tim was predeceased by his parents, John and Ruth Coburn of East Hartford/Glastonbury, and he looks forward to his reunion with them. Tim leaves behind many loving family members and friends, which he has always held deep in his heart. Tim is survived by his wife, Susan, and his daughter, Gabrielle, of Glastonbury, CT. He is also survived by his loving sister, Maryann Stino and her husband, Ken, of Glastonbury, CT, and his loving sister, Kathleen Coburn, of East Otis, MA. Tim is survived by numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, who are all dearly loved. A very special cousin, Dan Coburn, was a constant source of support and has become a younger brother over countless years. A special recognition also goes out to two life-long friends; John Larson of East Hartford, CT and Carl Lepack of Manchester, CT. John and Carl have always been there, in good times and bad. They have been a constant source of support, encouragement and love. Brian Dickstein of South Windsor, CT quickly became like a brother to Tim, they shared countless laughs and made many great memories over the past years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12 at 1pm in SS. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Calling Hours will be held from 10am-12noon prior to the service at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.

In lieu of flowers, be kind to someone, even a stranger, it makes a difference.
