My wife Tricia and I lived next door to Curt in Brandywine Village in the late 90’s. We loved Curt. So laid back, so genuine, everyone should have a friend like Curt.
As tradition would have it, the night before the NCAA tournament, I would be calling Curt to take his picks to submit to whatever pool we had joined. Then for the next week we would talk about the upsets and how far UCONN had gone. With his recent passing I’ve come to realize what he had been teaching us all along.
Curt was 72 years old when he passed, the majority of which was spent in a wheelchair thanks to a drunk driver.
But in the 34 years I knew Curt I never saw him down, he was always welcoming and cheerful. And never negative, the kind of light you want to be around. Just an unbelievable sense of gratitude despite the hardships that came with his disability.
Thanks for that lesson in perspective Curt, rest in peace brother and Go Uconn!
