Obituary of William "Bill" Beyerly
William “Bill” Beyerly, 81, of Marlborough passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on August 25, 1942, to the late Wade and Alice Beyerly and was also predeceased by his older brother, Jack. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Chillicothe High School class of 1960. He attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a MS in Mechanical Engineering. After college, he moved to Connecticut and was employed for over 41 years at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT where he was involved in the design, development, validation and introduction into service of jet engines for commercial and military aircraft and stationary power generation. He retired at the end of 2006 holding the position of Discipline Manager for Systems Performance Analysis.
He met his beloved wife Carol (Kacin) when she was a college summer engineering assistant at Pratt & Whitney, declaring “that’s the girl I’m going to marry” when he spotted her across the office for the first time. They married in 1969 and remained together for more than 54 years, raising three wonderful children.
In addition to his wife, Bill leaves behind his three children and their families, Mark and his wife Sandy of Natick, MA; Amy and her husband Jeff Gabriele of Arlington, MA; and Kevin and his wife Jackie of Ellington, CT. He was the loving Grampy to his five grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Alex Beyerly; and Claire and Owen Gabriele.
Outside of work and family, Bill was active in the Boy Scouts in Marlborough for 25 years, including 13 as Scout Master. In that time, he mentored over 40 young men in reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. He never missed an opportunity to camp, hike, canoe, or do anything outside with the Scouts, no matter what the weather.
Bill was an avid golfer and managed the JT8 Golf League at Blackledge Country Club, he was an enthusiastic supporter of UConn basketball and football, and a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Always quietly giving of himself to others, he donated more than 8 gallons of blood in his lifetime.
He enjoyed his annual summer vacations in Ocean City, NJ with his family, long walks outside, tailgating before football games, working outside in the yard, telling stories, eating good food, a glass of bourbon, and baking his famous cinnamon rolls. But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family.
Bill will be remembered as being patient, humble, practical, and calm; for always having a plan; for his kindness and generosity to friends, family, and the community; for the positive impact he had on all those around him; and for his love and commitment to his wife and family. He was truly a content man who lived a happy and active life.
