Obituary of John "Jack" Franckling
John "Jack" Franckling passed away after a short illness. He was born on November 26,1947 in Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by his father John and mother Elderia Franckling. Jack graduated from Penney High School in East Hartford and went on to receive advanced degrees in history and education. Jack became a dynamic history teacher at East Hartford High for 11 years, coaching both wrestling and track. Jack left teaching to pursue a career in law and continued to practice law as a well-respected criminal defense attorney. He enjoyed and felt intellectually challenged practicing law and protecting the constitution and was a formidable opponent in the courtroom, always treating his colleagues and clients with respect and compassion. Jack spent many years volunteering in Glastonbury CT, participating as a member of the Board of Education, and volunteering as a youth soccer and lacrosse coach. He also hosted two high school students in the ABC program for 8 years. Jack was clearly a terrific role model as one student went on to become a lawyer and the other a teacher. More recently Jack was asked to serve on the Congressional 1st district selection committee for the armed service academies of which he was proud to do. Jack found great pleasure in all things intellectual, and also great pleasure in anything involving the ocean and was an accomplished sailor and fly fisherman. Jack was proud to service on several committees more recently for the Falmouth Yacht Club. He especially enjoyed the comradery of the sailing community, nurturing new friendships through lively conversation. His greatest joy was raising his son of whom he was especially proud of, and in passing onto his son and grandsons his love of reading, fishing, and exploring anything connected to the water. Jack leaves behind his wife and "first mate" Caroline, his son Ian, and his wife, Brittany, parents of his two grandsons Thomas and James. He also leaves behind a sister Elderia and her husband Paul, and several nieces and nephews. A private seaside service will be attended by immediate family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family asks that you share condolences, post memories, or pictures by visiting www.mulryanfh.com. In lieu of flowers please make donations to support the Navy Seal Foundation.
