Obituary of Janet H. Shannon
Janet Shannon, beloved wife of the late Robert Shannon, passed away on June 20, 2024 at the age of 81. In her final days, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren, enjoying precious moments together, embracing the beaches and beauty of Cape Cod.
Born on February 13, 1943, in Hartford, CT, to Percy and Margaret (Leander) House, Janet was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury. She graduated from Brown University and pursued a career as a computer programmer with the Town of West Hartford and United HealthCare. Janet was also a talented artist and photographer, known for selling stenciled items and crafts, and worked in interior design at the Marlborough Country Barn for many years.
Janet shared her late husband Robert’s passion for boating and coastal life, treasuring the times they spent together in Old Saybrook and Mystic. She skillfully charted courses and helped navigate family journeys across Long Island Sound, creating adventures filled with family and friends that left her with cherished memories. Cape Cod also held a special place in Janet’s heart, where she traveled nearly every summer since childhood. She passed on these traditions to her children and grandchildren, enjoying Eastham beaches, seafood dinners, and beautiful sunsets together.
Janet had a profound love for animals, especially golden retrievers, with none more cherished than her beloved companion, Rosie. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir for over 40 years, sharing her love of music with the community.
Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Janet is survived by her daughter, Lisa Shannon Nolt, and her fiancé Bob DeVito of Hebron; her son, Mike Shannon, and his wife Jen of Glastonbury; her sister, Sally Riddell of Glastonbury; her brother-in-law, Roy Shannon, and his wife Pam of Glastonbury; and her adored grandchildren, Allison, Ryan, Luke, Tommy, and Zach, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ, 2183 Main St, Glastonbury, followed by burial at Green Cemetery. Calling hours will be at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm.
