Obituary of John G. Sokolowski

John G. Sokolowski, 83 of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Hartford, CT on November 10, 1940, he is the son of the late John Sokolowski and Anne (Yacone) Sokolowski D’Esopo and step father William D’Esopo. John attended Saint Augustine Catholic school. He graduated from Hartford High School, class of 1958. He was employed by the CT Department of Transportation, Planning Department for 27 years until his retirement in 1997. His love for antiques and collectibles kept him extremely busy during his retirement years, along with trips to the casino and Cape Cod.

John is survived by his beloved wife Sandra (Mitchell) Zimmerman Sokolowski, his loving daughter Jacqueline Zimmerman Wheaton, son-in-law Bradley R. Wheaton, two grandsons, Bradley P. Wheaton and Brandon M. Wheaton and his partner Olivia Minoudis. He so enjoyed teasing and playing with them as they were growing up and loved to spoil them. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by uncles, George Yacone, John Yacone, and Sonny Yacone, aunts Mary Yacone Furlong and Connie Yacone Vinickas. He also leaves behind two daughters, Roxanne DeMeo and her husband Ray, Nicole Sokolowski and granddaughter Maria Caracciolo as well as many cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the fifth floor and second floor of the Conklin building of Hartford Hospital for their caring and compassion during this difficult time as well as Hartford Healthcare at Home, Kate PT, Rachel OT, and nurses Candy, Tia and Richard.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Monday, July 29, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
