Obituary of Paul H. Marchinetti

Paul H. Marchinetti, 68, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 1, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Underhill) Marchinetti.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, Paul was the son of the late Henry P. and Ines (Ferrari) Marchinetti. Paul grew up in Park Ridge, NJ where he excelled in football and wrestling, developed life-long friendships, and grew a love for New York sports teams. Growing up, Paul was suitably doted on as the baby of the family by his older siblings, Sandra and Henry Marchinetti.

After several adventurous years of young adulthood, Paul enrolled at the University of Rhode Island, where he pursued Mechanical & Oceanographic Engineering, and where he met his wife, Sue. At URI, he further developed his love of scuba diving, which was a passion that he rekindled recently, diving with his daughter in Florida.

After earning his degree in RI, Paul had various corporate roles in sales engineering; these positions required Paul and Susan to move to several states across the Midwest. This period, building a life together on their own strengthened and deepened their marriage and partnership. Eventually, however, Paul found a role to bring them back to the east coast, so they could be closer to loved family and friends.

Paul prioritized his family above everything. To reduce the periodic moves of the corporate world, he pursued self-employment as an independent manufacturers’ representative and Paul and Sue settled permanently in Glastonbury in 1993. With this choice, Paul bought himself the freedom to coach little league teams with his close friend Jon Forrest and support his three children across several soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and football fields.

Paul was an avid athlete and outdoorsman throughout his life, racquetball, golf, hiking, hunting. His adventurous spirit, his bias for action, his generosity, and his infectious zeal for life were magnetic. One of Paul's great joys was bringing friends and family together for a good meal, many bottles of wine, and days and nights of laughter and community. Whether he was coordinating hiking trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, running the snack-bar with Sue for Glastonbury Youth Football, organizing a great dinner for the East Glastonbury Fish & Game Club, or just taking a customer out for lunch, Paul loved to be of service and to bring happiness to others.

Paul's reliability, compassion, loyalty, and honesty created deep life-long relationships both professionally & personally. He made every person in his life feel prioritized and important regardless of his own concerns.

Paul’s memory and love for life will be honored and celebrated by his friends and family for all the years to come. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his son Michael P. Marchinetti and his wife Amber LaFountain of MA, his daughter Jenna Marchinetti and her fiancé Daniel Purcell of NY, his son Matthew Marchinetti of NY, his brother Henry P. Marchinetti and his wife Valerie of NJ and his sister Sandra Marchinetti of FL.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
