Obituary of Andrew Babiak
It is with great sadness that the family of Andrew Babiak announces his passing on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Englee) Babiak for 34 years.
Andy was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 10, 1960, to the late Andrew J. and Marie T. (Olsen) Babiak. He was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, class of 1978 and SUNY Oswego, class of 1982 where he majored in Business. He went on to a long and successful career in finance where he was highly respected by his colleagues for the impacts he made, both professionally and personally.
Beyond his work, Andy enjoyed live concerts, all sporting events, reading, and outdoor activities. Most importantly, Andy’s gift was building loving and long relationships with his family, friends, colleagues, and mentees. It is difficult to express how many lives he touched with his caring words, long honest discussions, quiet support, and outstanding sense of humor. One would describe Andy as a stoic - deeply sensitive to those around him, abundantly affectionate to his loved ones, vigorously holding himself to the highest standard.
Andy and his wife, Helen, prioritized their family above all else. Together, they created a set of family core values which outlined the code of conduct they would follow with themselves and others. This pact deeply bonded their family, creating trust, honesty, and respect among each member. He will be forever missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him.
In addition to his wife Helen, Andy is survived by his daughter Erin Sandolo and her husband Robert, his sons Ryan Babiak and Drew Babiak, his sister Leslie Meyer and her husband David, his brother Michael Babiak, his aunt Connie Glynn, his uncle George Olsen, his mother-in-law Tomasa Rodriguez, sisters-in-law Mae Jean Englee, MD and her husband William Calzavara, Betty Eng Lee and her partner Linda Rowe, and Rosemary Kamei-Dailey and her husband Thomas Dailey, MD.
The Babiak family would like to thank the medical professionals at Middlesex Hospital CCU and Yale-New Haven Hospital SICU for their incredible efforts and support to the family during Andy’s time there. The treatment and care given to both Andrew and the family was amazing.
