Obituary of Rudolph Schoen

Rudolph “Rudy” Schoen, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Hartford Hospital on January 2, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1933 to his late parents Joseph and Katharina (Link) Schoen.

Before retiring in 1994, Rudy had a rewarding 41-year long career at Pratt & Whitney, where he was proud to work alongside his friends and family. Outside of work, he was committed to giving back to the community and volunteered as a firefighter, a fire instructor, an instructor for the Red Cross, and a teacher for struggling youth in the city of Hartford, amongst other positions.

He was also a proud patriot, having served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later joining the American Legion Post 56, of which he was a member for over 50 years. Additionally, he was a lifelong member of multiple other fraternal organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the Elks and Moose Clubs. In his later years, he especially took joy in organizing Glastonbury’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade as Parade Marshall and regularly donating blood, eventually giving over 30L over the course of his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Schoen of Glastonbury; his daughter, Denise Schoen of Manchester; his granddaughter, Charmaine Dellaripa of Glastonbury; and his great-granddaughter, Lianna Creedon of New York, NY, whom he lovingly helped raise in his retirement years. He also leaves behind multiple nephews and nieces, their families and his other grandchild, James Kristoff. Besides his parents, Rudy is predeceased by his four siblings, Kenneth, John, Joseph Schoen and Katharina (“Penny”) Lomnicky, his beloved daughter Louise Schoen, and his grandson Shawn Kristoff, all of whom he will be very excited to see again.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 10:30 am at SS. Isidore and Maria Parish in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., Glastonbury. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
