Obituary of Gale K. Busemeyer

Gale Keane Busemeyer, 83, passed away on Jan. 9, 2025, beloved wife of David G. Busemeyer.

She was born in Flushing, N.Y., on July 24, 1941, daughter of Edmound and Grace (McRae) Keane, and grew up on Long Island, N.Y. She married her college sweetheart, David, on June 27, 1964. Together, they enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage, devoted to each other and to their family.

Gale graduated cum laude from Marquette University in 1963 and received a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1964. Gale graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1989, where she was executive editor of the Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board's semifinalist team in the National Moot Court Competition. She was a 1994 recipient of the Marquette University Service award.

Gale was a former member of the American, Connecticut and Hartford County Bar Associations, executive board of the Federal Bar Association, and American Inns of Court.

She practiced law at the Hartford firm then known as Murtha, Cullina, Richter and Pinney and, as part of a series of mergers and acquisitions, at Security-Connecticut Life Insurance Company and ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, retiring from ING in 2010.

In retirement, she continued to volunteer in various ministries at St. John Fisher and, as an avid reader, with the Greater Hartford YMCA's Read to Succeed program.

Gale was a faithful member of St. John Fisher Church in Marlborough, from its beginning as a mission church in 1972. She served over the years as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Trustee, Parish Council member, religious education teacher and coordinator. She was a former member of the Marlborough Board of Education, Conservation Commission and Charter Revision Commission. She was the editor and publisher of the Marlborough Messenger from 1974 to 1986.

Gale is survived by her beloved children and adored grandchildren: Stephen D. Busemeyer, his wife Martha, of New Hartford, Conn., and their children Thomas and Julia; and John Keane Busemeyer, his wife Deborah, of Santa Fe, N.M., and their children Daniel and Emily. She is also survived by a sister, Sister Grace Keane, OSF, of Reading, Penn.; niece Lynn Dimond and husband Daniel; nephew James Huntington and wife Jerilyn, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and their children and grandchildren. Her parents and beloved sister-in-law, Mary Ann Huntington, died previously.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. John Fisher Church, 30 Jones Hollow Road, Marlborough. Burial will be in the Marlboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Memorial donations may be made to St. John Fisher Church.
