Obituary of Glenn Bidwell
Glenn Porter Bidwell, 90, of Cape Coral, FL and East Hartford, CT. died Thursday, March 6, 2014. He was born to the late Everett B. and Nellie P. Bidwell on August 15, 1923 in Buffalo, NY. He is survived by his wife and love of 69 years Gloria (Phillips) Bidwell. Glenn graduated from East Hartford High School in 1941, received a BS in Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1949 and later an MBA from the University of Hartford. Glenn was employed as a mechanical engineer by several different companies over the years including DuPont, Stauffer, General Foods, Chesebrough-Pond and Combustion Engineering. He served in WW II from 1942 to 1945 as a B-25 bomber pilot. Glenn was a multi-talented and very driven individual. Always the consummate engineer, there was little he could not design, build or fix-including several of his own new inventions for which he sought patents. An entrepreneur, he spearheaded a successful family business, now being carried on by his sons. He was an avid boater and his passion for travel took him throughout the US and abroad-always with his wife Gloria, his constant companion. Glenn's legacy is continued by his sons, Dr. Glenn Bidwell, Jr. and his wife Cathi of Franklin, VA, Russell Bidwell and his wife Carol Youell of Glastonbury, CT. and James Bidwell and his wife Donna Rand of Glastonbury, CT. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren whom he loved and who loved him very much. Glenn was predeceased by his three brothers, Everett, David and Daniel. Funeral service will be held Friday March 14 at 11am in the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 10:00am to 11:00am.
