Obituary of Calvin Symons
Calvin Carey Symons, 89, of Glastonbury, made his transition to that next place on Easter Sunday, he told us it was his time. Calvin was born August 2, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Sheepshead Bay at the perfect time. He served his country in World War II in the Seabees, including a tour in New Guinea. Calvin worked as an engineer for Pratt & Whitney then transitioned to be part of the team that created Turbo, Power and Marine. He retired early and worked part time at Ward Manufacturing as an engineer. He enjoyed his work and the people that he worked alongside. Recently, he was thrilled about the UCONN women's victory and loved sharing stories with his friends and family on Facebook. He attended First Church of Christ, Congregational in Glastonbury and was a former member and treasurer of the Hockanum Methodist Church in East Hartford. Calvin was married to the late Rosemary "Honey" (Powell) Symons for over 50 years and had three children. He leaves his daughters; Loretta Symons and her husband Rodney Jenson, Patricia Zendzian and her husband Mark Zendzian all of Glastonbury, Debra Symons of Andover and four grandchildren; Brian Zendzian of Glastonbury, Laura Koebler of Dedham, MA, Dan Jenson and Stephanie Jenson of Denver, CO, and a brother Bernard Symons of Baldwin, NY.
