Obituary of Marie Calvin

Marie Marsh Calvin was born in Valois, New York on April 4, 1925. She graduated from Elmira College in 1946 and Smith College of Social Work in 1951. She moved to Chicago for an internship as well as her first job in Social Work. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert Calvin. They were married on July 10, 1954 in Watkins Glen, NY and moved to the Hartford, CT area in 1959. Marie worked at Child and Family Services of Hartford for about 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury where she was active on several committees and went on mission trips to Malawi and Thailand. She also was a charter member of a Book Club group that has been meeting for many years. She was active in the Hartford PFLAG. Marie will be remembered for her loving kindness, strength of spirit and sense of humor. She leaves behind Robert, her husband of almost 60 years; her 3 children: Linda (Staige) Kern of Raleigh, NC, Steve Calvin of Westford, MA, and Kate Calvin (Susan Sperry) of So. Glastonbury, CT; three grandchildren: Ben, Megan, and Jenny Kern; a granddog, Tallulah; her beloved cat, Gracie; and many friends and family. She will be sorely missed. Calling hours will be on Sat. May 31, from 4-6pm at Mulryan Funeral Home , 725 Hebron Ave. Glastonbury.
