Obituary of Martin Galvin II
Martin J. Galvin II, life-long resident of East Hartford, died on December 21, 2014, after a brief illness at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Martin was born July 29, 1922 the son of Katherine Keane and Martin Galvin. Martin attended St. Mary's School and was a member of the Drum and Fife Corps. He graduated from East Hartford High School. Martin was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph in the Pacific as an Aviation Machinist's Mate Third Class. His wife Dorothy of 64 years predeceased him. Martin was employed 25 years at Royal Typewriter as a model maker and then for 20 years at C&W Manufacturing. He was a loving father and leaves his daughter Pamela and her husband Alan Jankot, his son Martin and his wife Cindy, and his son David. Also grand-daughter Tanya and her husband Jeffrey and grand-daughter Amee and her husband Jason. He had great joy in his great-grandchildren Abigail, Jackson, Dorothy and Madeline. He leaves his sister Marie Baba, sister Helen and her husband Ivan Stuart, and his sister-in-law Mary Galvin. His siblings Gertrude McCann, Thomas Galvin and Elizabeth Cyr predeceased him. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed family vacations at the seashores of Cape Cod and Rhode Island, and every spring looked forward to opening day at Fenway Park as he was a life-long Red Sox fan. At Martin's request there will be no calling hours and the memorial and burial service will be private at a date to be announced.
