Obituary of William Ferris
William E. Ferris Sr., 72, of Charlotte, Maine, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, the beloved husband of Linda M. (Albrecht) Ferris, died peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Bill was born on July 16, 1938 in Hartford, CT to William and Alice (Houle) Ferris. He grew up in Charter Oak Terrace in Hartford where he met Linda his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life. They were married and moved to Glastonbury where they raised their family. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Early on in his life, he worked with his brothers in the family run auto body collision repair business. He quickly found he had a passion and interest in politics and current events and held various positions in town government including Glastonbury Town Council, Town Planning and Zoning Board, Democratic Town Chairman. Bill served under three Connecticut governors and was appointed as the Director of Auto Emissions to develop the first auto emissions program for Connecticut, and also served as Deputy Director at the Division of Special Revenue. He was a member of the Glastonbury Rotary Club, Irish American Home, Matson Hill Club and was very active in the Glastonbury community. Bill was a lifelong New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, and UCONN basketball fan. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and the shore. Bill loved to work with his hands and was a Dad who always wanted to help his children in whatever home projects they were starting. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, loved his family very much and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law William and Patty Ferris Jr. of Berlin; two daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and Glenn Lagasse of Glastonbury, Elizabeth and Jim Goodman of Sharon, Mass; two brothers and sisters-in-law Ronald and Linda Ferris, and David and Glenna Ferris, and a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Michael Patulak; his grandchildren Bill, Jim, Ashley, Erin, Glenn, Taryn , Olivia and Sam; and several nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his precious niece Jennifer Lepore. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Massachusetts General Hospital for all the care, support, and understanding they extended to Bill and his family .A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Nov. 9 at 10:00am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St. Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Monday Nov. 8 from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department
