Little Gram, you truly will be missed. I have been blessed to have a grandmother like you in my life. I know watching Matt and I was a handful and hiding in the closet probably wasn't the smartest hiding spot, but we had a few laughs when there was a get together. I know that grandpa met you with open arms. Rest in peace. Love Tim

I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire family. I grew up with Vi as one of the Moms at the lake and I spent a lot of time with the children of the family. Marion and Peggy used to babysit Tony and I. Jimmy and I spent countless hours talking and trying to catch the ever-elusive lunker bass and usually just ended up with sunnies. Vi was always watching over us from your living room, a stabilizing force in my childhood, and a fond memory forever.

Almost three years ago I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. Shortly after we discovered we were having a girl and we had no girl names picked out. My husband and I had several weeks of discussion about what we were going to name our new baby girl. It wasn't until I was going through a boxes of old photo's when I cam across a picture from my high school graduation. It was of me a my grandparents. I can still remember how prod Nana was of me that night. Anytime things had gotten tough or I felt like giving up my Nana was always there. She was one of my rocks in my life. That's when my daughter's name came to me. On 7/30/2009 my daughter Violet was born, becoming the 8th of my nana's 10 great grandchildren.
I miss you so much Nana. I pray for my daughter to have your strength and your determination. She has a great role model to build her life on., just like I always had.

I remember at times taking to Mom and she would call me Bill, then correct herself and call me Jim. Next thing you know , Bill was calling from Texas. She had a sense about her. She knew what was going on without knowing. Every time Bill went downward , she would know what was going on and when. When I called her when Bill passed, she knew it was me, knew Bill had passed and told me Bill was already there, brushed her hair, kissed her on the forehead and said goodbye. The same thing also in August of 1985 When her Mom passed. It can not be explained but I do believe a mother has a connection deeper than anyone can explain and that is something I think only a mother can understand.

She arrived on March 18 1928, Violet Loretta Conrad born to Henry and Myrtle Conrad while they visited Myrtle's family. They called her a blue baby as she had a veil created by the amniotic sack and a hole in her heart, they did not expect her to live. At three months she returned home to Nova Scotia. The eldest of 11 children, two dying in infancy; she aged to 17 residing in Nova Scotia. At 17 she left Canada to return to the United States, the place of her birth, in order to retain her American citizenship as the immigration laws of the United States at that time required. She moved in with her half sister in Hartford CT. She went to work at Traveler's Insurance. She met and married a returning veteran and neighbor Roger Sherman Nearing. She and her husband lived in Washington DC during the post war years while Roger attended school on the GI bill. Returning to his hometown and her adopted hometown of Hartford, she and Roger wanted to begin a family. She suffered a devastating loss miscarrying her first child. They investigated the adoption process, while undergoing it, a baby was conceived and born. Lauretta was born on 4-18-1953. Then the family faced another more devastating crisis, Roger was diagnosed and eventually died of malignant melanoma. During the ordeal, I was conceived and four months after my father's death I was born. As a 26 year old widow, she worked at G. Fox for Beatrice Fox Auerbach. She worked as a floor walker, in charge of the men's department, but under the title of head cashier and with its pay, because women could not be floor walkers. After all men had families to support. After my father's death, she was given advice by her Episcopal preist, to live her life and not build up her late husband into sainthood thus preventing her from living the life God intended for her. She lived her life with good friends and her infant daughters. She met a young man Edward Wallace. She found the love of her life and married him. He loved her for the rest of his life. He took her infant daughters to his heart and adopted them. They became the big sisters of five more children, two brothers and three sisters. The family prospered. In 2003, they suffered the loss of their eldest son, something no mother or father should experience burying a child. In 2010 she lost her love. She mourned once more. In 2012 she joined her first husband, her son and the love of her life. God has granted you rest Mom; you will be missed.

Vi played many roles while growing up. Being the oldest in a large family she became an assistant mother as well as older sister. Vi was also my God Mother. Many years later Margaret and I postponed our wedding 2 years so Vi could give me away as Mom had passed on many years before. Vi is now with my wife Margaret in Heaven as she passed away January 13, 2012. May they rest in peace in His Divine Presence. AMEN
