Obituary of Robert Phelon
Robert A. Phelon, loving husband of Nancy, and a long-time resident of Wethersfield and Glastonbury, and a U. S. Marine Corps veteran died Monday April 25, 2011. Mr. Phelon worked for years in the banking industry and he retired in 2010 from the Connecticut Development Authority. Mr. Phelon was past president of the local Exchange Club; past treasurer of the local Salvation Army, and past president of A Better Chance House. An avid golfer, Mr. Phelon was past president of Glastonbury Hills Country Club men's golf league. He attended and played sports for The Gunnery School, and Washington and Lee University. He also played baseball for the Marines at Parris Island with whom he served from 1956-58. In addition to his wife, Mr. Phelon is survived by his son, Neal Phelon of Manchester, and his daughters and their husbands Jill and Butch Kinney of Manchester, Robyn and Erik Barbieri, Elizabeth and Robert Saunders all of Glastonbury and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and her husband Janet and Tom Lawton of Wethersfield and his sister-in-law and her husband Karen and Andrew Sullivan of Glastonbury and his brother-in-law and his wife Frank Schiavone and Susan Campbell of East Haven and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Monday May 2, 9:15am from the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday May 1, from 2-5pm.
