Obituary of Joseph Krason

Joseph Victor Krason, 86 of South Glastonbury, beloved husband of the late Phyllis B. (Mason) Krason, died Sept. 6 at Hartford Hospital following a serious stroke. Born on June 11, 1925 in Willimantic to the late Joseph and Katherine Krason, he attended Windham Regional High School and graduated salutatorian. Shortly after graduation he was drafted and was eligible for the Army Specialized Training Program and following completion was shipped overseas in 1944. He served in the US Armed Forces in the WWII European Theater and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Upon returning to the States, he attended and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, having earned a mechanical engineering degree. Throughout his career he worked tirelessly in the engineering field developing prototypes for government contracts, leaving behind numerous patents. In 1970 he returned to school and earned his masters degree in Business Administration from University of Connecticut. Throughout his engineering career he worked for the Carter Administration in Conservation, Turbo Power and Marine with Pratt and Whitney, and retired at age 70 after 20 years with the State of Connecticut in Energy Management. He was a golf enthusiast, an avid skier and shared his passion for the links and slopes with his children. He so enjoyed coaching basketball, Little League baseball and umpiring when his children were young. He will be remembered most by his children as a devoted husband of 41 years, a loving father, and grand-father. Joseph is survived by his daughter Lorin K. Hardy and son-in-law Mark Bryant of Wethersfield; a son, Jeffrey A. Krason of Glastonbury; his grandchildren, Conor Joseph Hardy and Anna Elizabeth Hardy, special friends, and good neighbors. A memorial service will be on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury (corner of Main and High Street), at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Richard Allen officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
