To all the Hoffman family, please accept my deepest condolences upon the passing of Chief Hoffman. As a young editor of the Glastonbury Citizen newspaper many years ago, I covered Mr Hoffman and the officers of Glastonbury PD, a highly professional department. He always had time for forthright discussion about local law enforcement, and we had many interesting conversations about history and current affairs. I got to know Mrs Marge Hoffman, a very warm-hearted lady, and some of the children along the way. If I might share an anecdote, the Chief and Marge suggested I look up a family friend on a trip to London one year. We did, and it turned out that, as a young girl, she was taken in or informally adopted by the Hoffmans when they were stationed in England. On her mantle in London, in an honored place, were photos of the Chief in USAF uniform, Marge and the children. This image stuck with me as testament for what a wonderful couple--and family--the Hoffmans are. My condolences.

I am very grateful to have had Uncle Frank as my godfather. He and Aunt Margie became bright spots in my life through the years and it was always a good occasion when we were able to visit - whether in Ct., Fl., or NY. I admired him for making the effort to attend a 30 day retreat several years ago. In my book, that takes a lot of resolve and courage. When I saw tears in his eyes at my dad's funeral, I knew he had a heart and really cared.

To the family of Chief Hoffman: Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of a wonderful man. I was hired by Chief Hoffman back in 1985 and worked as a Community Service Officer for 15 years. He was a wonderful Chief and after reading his obituary, I see he was quite a man and American. I was very happy to see that he had not only a wonderfully long life but an accomplished life as well. You must all be so very proud. I am sorry to say that I will not be able to attend his service but I assure you that I will be thinking of all of you.

Several years ago I had asked my uncle Frank where was he on D day. He told me that he was in England, in a bomber on a runway, with the engines reeved up and ready to go. HE WAS 20 YEARS OLD !. All Americans owe his generation much for their sacrifice in keeping us free.
May God bless and receive him in heaven.

I am very proud to have been able to call Francis J Hoffman my Uncle. I have many fond memories of Uncle Frank. One being the ice cream test: He bet that I could not taste the difference between choclate--vanilla and strawberry blindfolded.
He lost.
I am grateful to him and all my cousins for their service to our country.
With deepest sympathy,
Helen Hoffman

Please accept my deepest and heartfelt condolences for the Loss of Chief Hoffman. I had the privilege to work for and with him in Glastonbury many years ago. He always encouraged to me to pursue new challenges and opportunities in Law Enforcement, and his unselfish mentoring set the foundation for my entire career. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.,
