Obituary of Delores D. West

Delores D. West, 75, of Glastonbury, wife of the late William C. West, died Thursday November 19, 2015 at home. Born July 7, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of the late Mary Bell Rhiver and Theodore Michel, she was predeceased by her brother Ted Michel. Delores was passionate about her family and travel, themes which were intertwined from early days of living abroad and traveling internationally with her beloved husband and throughout the balance of her life as she traveled extensively to help care for all of her seven grandchildren, leaving an imprint on each of them of warmth, compassion and humility. Delores was an active member of the Shoreline Sailing Club and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren including watching their soccer, football and lacrosse games. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Dan Riggott of South Glastonbury, CT; Suzanne and Adolfo Santillan of Miami, FL; Sandra West and Don Podrebarac of Waxhaw, NC; and seven grandchildren, Elena, DJ, Maddie, Tommy, Ben, Sammie and Colby. The family is grateful for the loving care provided by her full time caregivers, Diane and Delores, who cared for her as if she was their own mother for more than a year. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday Nov. 27 at 11am in the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury (corner of Main and High St) with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating.
