Obituary of John M. Butala
John M Butala, 90, of Glastonbury, CT, loving husband of the late Matilda (Jill Walker) Butala passed into the next life on November 1, 2016. He was born in McAdoo PA and shortly thereafter moved with his parents Michael Butala and Elizabeth Turek to Yonkers, NY. He attended Saunders Technical High School in Yonkers and then enlisted in the Navy Seabees as a draftsman in Nov 1944 where he spent time in Guam and Japan. He served in the Navy reserves from 1949 through 1959. He leaves his loving children Stephen Butala and wife Carol of Winfield IL, Valerie Perruzza and husband Albert of Brookfield CT, Christine Whelen and husband Sonny of Lyme CT, John P Butala and wife Patrice of Ridgefield CT and 11 grandchildren Thomas & William Butala, Stephanie, Paul & Christopher Perruzza, Stephen & Lauren Croll & Emily Miroslaw and husband David, Mary, Michael & Daniel Butala. He is predeceased by his brother Daniel Butala. John dedicated his life to his family. He made friends everywhere he went through his generosity of good humor and knowledge of science/engineering. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed swimming. He loved to spend his time outside in the sunshine. He was active in the senior center and square dancing. Throughout his lifetime he was employed as a draftsmen and Mechanical Engineer by Norden Labs, Polarad Electronics, AMF, Technicon Corp and Bayer. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Yonkers NY, the Holy Name Society and St. Paul Church in Glastonbury CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov 21 at 10:30am at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends and family may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT Sunday, Nov. 20 from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Southington, CT 06489.
