Obituary of Sylvia Sacchitello Callirgos

Sylvia (Sacchitello) Callirgos, 85, of Glastonbury, died Friday January 20, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Born January 24, 1931 in New York City, daughter of the late Carmine and Julia (Lizzi) Sacchitello, she was married to Victor A. Callirgos for over 56 years; from their wedding in New York on June 7, 1952 to his passing on December 13, 2008. Sylvia and her husband raised their family in Manhattan, Queens, Syosset, and Melville, NY, as well as New Fairfield, CT. After their children had grown they settled in Glastonbury in 1994. Sylvia worked many years in retail sales, but her life was mostly centered on her nuclear family and her large extended family. She was also an avid reader, movie lover, and, quite possibly, Frank Sinatra's biggest fan. Sylvia is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Victor and Daryl Callirgos of Bennington, VT, Jayne McMurdy of Wethersfield, Jodi and Glenn Lussier of Glastonbury; a brother Carmine Sacchitello, Jr. of NC, 2 sisters Clementina Brootkowski of CA, Carmela Balzano of NJ; as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Judy Callirgos; 2 brothers, Felix and Pasquale Sacchitello; and 2 sisters, Vincenza Walters and Anna Scaramuzzo. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the family will receive guests wishing to pay respects.
