Obituary of Frank C. Romano

Frank Charles Romano, 87, of Manchester died on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at home, his wife by his side. Frank was born on July 12, 1929 in Hartford, to the late Pasquale and Josephine (Cersosimo) Romano. He graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1948 and then served in army occupied Germany, in the 164th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company C from 1951 to 1953. While he was in the army he played football and baseball as part of the Entertainment Corps and visited many of the American military bases across Europe. When he came home he met and married the love of his life, Marie Anne Jalbert, and together they had 5 children. He worked to support his family for 35 years as a fire-fighter for the Hartford Fire Department and was happiest as a Lieutenant at Engine Company 9. Frank and his wife lived in Glastonbury for 34 years and for some of that time he was a volunteer in the Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department, Company 3. Once he retired, Frank worked in the local area as a volunteer installing Lifeline access for the elderly. He was a member of the Glastonbury Community Church - a man dedicated to doing his ”Father’s” work. Frank spent several years as an active participant in Prison Ministry at the York & Gates Correctional Institutions in Niantic where he mentored and supported others in their Christian walk of understanding and faith. Throughout his life, Frank was a family man, and he committed his life to his wife, children, and community. He loved their cottage at the beach, talking about the Bible, and visiting with friends and family. Frank was a devoted Yankee fan and rooted for the UCONN men and women’s basketball teams. Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years and his five children - Brenda and her husband John Amato of Portland, Debbie and her husband Bill Connors of Hebron, Lynne Romano of Glastonbury, Laurie and her husband Jason Hunniford of Hebron and Frank and his wife Christine (Bedard) Romano of Scandia, MN. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren – Anthony Amato, Michael and Danielle Amato, Jonathan, Juliana and Geoffrey Connors, Richard Evans, and Nichole and Frank C. Romano II. Frank is survived by his sister Christine (Romano) Maccagnon and her husband Nino Maccagnon. Frank was predeceased by his brother Richard Romano and his sister Rosemary (Romano) Pastore. A wake will be held at Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury on Friday evening, March 24th, from 4 - 7 pm. A Christian Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 25th, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church located at 240 Hillstown Road, Manchester. The burial will take place immediately after the service at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
