Obituary of Elizabeth Guilford Wyman

Elizabeth ‘Betsey’ Guilford Wyman, 84, of Glastonbury Connecticut, passed away Friday, May 26 surrounded by her loving family.

Preceded in death by her husband Donald Wyman Jr., she is survived by her two sons, Mark D. Wyman and wife Lynne, Torrington, and Jeff D. Wyman and wife Nancy Pawlik, Waterford; her daughter, Joan E. Wyman and partner Jerri Cable, Atlanta; her four grandchildren, Samantha Wyman Davis and husband Bradley Davis, Daniel Wyman and wife Sarah Wyman, Cory Wyman and husband Garren Levi and Brittany Hoy and husband James Hoy III; adopted grandson Colin Dean and wife Suma Nair, Cambridge; and her beloved great grandchildren, Hayden Grey Davis, Camryn Elizabeth Davis and baby Wyman due this June.

Betsey was born on May 9, 1933 to Marjorie Williams Guilford and George Franklin Guilford in Syracuse, New York. She was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1951 and Vassar College class of 1955 where she received a degree in dramatic arts.  She married Donald Wyman Jr., of Weston, Massachusetts, on June 25, 1955, and spent their five decades of marriage the definition of love.

Betsey made her home in Glastonbury for more than 57 years where she worked as a medical coder and devoutly acted as altar guild leader of St. James Episcopal Church. But most significantly, Betsey proudly raised her family in this community, never missing a swim meet or practice.  As her family grew, she traveled the state, the country and the world to be present for every moment. Her flawless ability to make you feel significant and deeply loved will forever go unparalleled.

Most knew Betsey as an avid reader and admired how she saw life as an adventure. She leapt without fear, loved honestly, and never failed to tell you what she thought. A true heroine to her family and community, Betsey has undoubtedly left a mark on the hearts of many.

A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, June 10, at St. James Episcopal Church, 2584 Main Street in Glastonbury at 2:30 p.m. An interment ceremony will follow directly after the service in the church’s memorial garden. Guests are invited to stay for a life celebrating-reception with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betsey’s name to St. James Episcopal Church Altar Guild Fund, P.O Box 206, Glastonbury, CT 06033. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
