What a great guy! When I was a kid, Bill helped me find parts to fix my bicycles at the Western Auto store. Later, when I was a college student, he let me buy my first chain saw on time, extending me a store credit while I used the saw in my part-time tree work business. I would stop by the store and pay him ten or fifteen dollars a week until the saw was paid off. He never sent me a bill. It was all on a handshake basis. Of course, I enjoyed coming to the store, because Bill was always so welcoming and friendly. In a way, Bill characterized what made Glastonbury such a great town to grow up and live in. I will always remember and be grateful for having known him.

My wife and I moved our family from Florida to Glastonbury in 1999. We had the good fortune of going to “Constantine Hardware” and meeting Mr. Constantine (Bill) and Gary.
I needed a clutch and chain for my chainsaw. They had the chain in stock, the clutch was ordered. I remember being told, “pay us next week when you pick up the clutch”.
During one of our week long power outages, I mentioned I still was without power. Mr. Constantine (Bill) said, “want to stop by the house and borrow mine?”.
I have gotten to know several members of the Constantine family over my 17 years in Glastonbury. They are all fabulous, loving, contributing, members of our community. They helped to make Glastonbury a “home” for us. I credit Mr. and Mrs. Constantine. Our hearts go out to your family.
All of our love,
Greg, Karen, Spencer and Miles Haymond

Ray and I were truly saddened to read of Billy's passing . . . Billy was a truly good person, always willing to help anyone in need. I will always remember his kindness and mentoring while serving on the Democratic Town Committee, and his quiet leadership while Chairman of the Town Council, never calling attention to himself, but with the best interests of Glastonbury as his focus. He leaves a legacy of service to his community, but, more importantly, his legacy as a loving husband and father to a wonderful family who will carry his memory and sense of community into future generations. We will miss him! Toni and Ray Dolan

We are so saddened to here of the loss of a friend we truly liked. We have so many fond memories working next door to him when we had the meat market, sharing the trials of raising our sons and daughters, of broken lawnmowers and snowblowers, and small town politics. Bill will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know such a gentle man. Even though we cannot be with you in person, you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m so very sorry for the passing of Bill. Gosh, just before Christmas he let me have some pine ones from a tree in your parking lot. He was a mainstay on the GHS soccer sidelines, let us have bake sales outside the store and always so generous as a man of few words. He will surely be missed.

Dear Doris,
We were saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved Bill.. We enjoyed our intermittent encounters with you and Bill in Florida during our past winters in and around Disney. We also enjoyed talking to you and Bill during our walks along Fifth Avenue in Sea Lea.
We regret not being able to come to the wake or service, as we both are recuperating from repeated bouts of bronchitis this winter.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God's blessings during these difficult times.

I am really saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Thinking of Bill brings back some great memories - boating and fishing around Block Island, messing around at Western Auto with the Beave (hopefully not getting in the way too much, but I learned a lot), snowmobiling, his generosity, and most of all his smile and his friendly personality. I am glad that I had the opportunity have lunch shortly after I returned to CT a summer ago on the picnic table outside Constantine Hardware with Bill, Doris, Karen, Sam and a couple of the grandchildren. It felt like old times!. He has been an institution in Glastonbury and will be missed by many. I am sorry that I am not in town this week to offer my condolences in person. He was a great man and I am thankful for the experiences and memories.

Dear Doris and family, So sorry to read of Bill's death on January 4 of this year. He was such a good neighbor, as well as a loving and proud father and grandfather. He and Doris and our whole neighborhood were delighted when his son bought a beach house on our street, near his own in Charlestown. We will miss seeing him on his porch there, with his smiling wife and constant companion, Doris. He was a friend to all he met and that friendship was returned. We are sending out a memo to all those friends and neighbors here in Sea Lea Colony, giving them this sad news. Our condolences go out to Doris and all the Constantine family.

Dear Karen~
We are so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He was such a kind man. We have spent years going to the hardware store, and when he was working, we were always greeted warmly. It was apparent how much he loved his family; it was heartwarming seeing you, Sam, Katie and Amy and the rest of your family sitting at the picnic table enjoying lunch on a regular basis at the store. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to call.

So very hard to hear about Billy. It was always a pleasure to walk in the store and be greeted with a smile. He was always available to assist the public in any way possible. If the items you wanted were not there, he would do his best to get them for you. His overhead display was really clever and fun to look at. He was a great asset to the town, and we are sure he will he missed by all. We are so sorry for your loss.
