My sincere condolences to you Ken, and your family , at the passing of your beloved father. He was indeed an icon in his community. My favorite memory of him is from the summer that I had recently retired and offered to tutor some of his farm
workers in English; he had expressed dismay that he could not always communicate effectively with them and thought that, since I spoke Spanish, perhaps I could help. We had some wonderful sessions and he was always so gracious and paternal w/ his workers. He was indeed a treasure to all who knew him.

Howard was a wonderful supporter of Friends of the Office of State Archaeology (FOSA) and students of the Glastonbury School System who were interested in archaeology. Once a year for many years Glastonbury students, FOSA, and school volunteers would gather on the Horton Farm for archaeological field experience.
We had conducted an interview with Howard for our FOSA Newsletter. It was fun talking with Howard and learning about the Horton Farm History.
Perhaps because of the students’ experiences on the Horton Farm with Howard, one or more may hopefully pursue the field of archaeology.
Thank you, Howard, for sharing with us your time and knowledge.
You will be missed by all.

To the Ken and the entire Horton family,
On behalf of the Friends of the Office of State Archaeology (FOSA), I would like to express our deepest condolences at Howard's passing.
On personal note, I would like to thank Howard and Ken for their stewardship of the land the family has farmed for so long. It is the largest collection of artifacts I have ever seen collected off a single piece of property and offers a significant insight to the land’s pre-contact occupation. I always looked forward to Howard visiting when we were excavating at the Hollister site. He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of South Glastonbury and was always willing to take the time to share that knowledge with us. Besides that, I always enjoyed swapping fire department war stories with him.
Rest easy Howard.

My sincere condolences to Kenneth and family. I worked for Howard and Ken 2 or three summers in the early 70’s. Learned many lessons which have served me well ever since! Loved working on your family’s farm. I distinctly remember working alongside Howard and Ken when the siren would sound. Both immediately took off at a trot for the truck to head to the firehouse. Truly dedicated! Howard was indeed a Glastonbury treasure, and a Nayaug icon! His encyclopedic memory of our community’s history will be sorely missed! Rest well, Howard.

My condolences to the family. Howard has been a well known name throughout the Town for all of my life, as is his famous farm. He will be missed by a multitude. I still have hay bales in my barn that he tossed down to me in the 1980s from the second floor of a hay barn. The bruise on my head has gone away. Roger Emerick on Hopewell Rd.
