Obituary of Howard H. Horton, Jr.

Howard H. Horton, Jr., 99, of South Glastonbury passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Emily (Blanchard) Horton.

Born August 20, 1924 on the family farm on Tryon St., South Glastonbury to the late Howard H. Horton, Sr. and Santina (Rocco) Horton, Howard was a lifelong resident devoted to the farm and the fire service in Glastonbury. He began as a Fire Cadet with the South Glastonbury Fire Department. When the SGFD became the Glastonbury Fire Department, Co. 2, Howard was made a Company Officer, holding that position until being promoted to Assistant Chief of the fledgling GFD. His final position was Fire Marshall from which he retired. Howard’s farm career was a partnership with his father, brother and son.

Left to remember his life is his devoted son Kenneth Horton and his cherished grandchildren Natalie, Brian and Emily Horton of South Glastonbury, his niece Dona Hylas and her husband Paul of NY, his nephew Paul Figurela and his wife Anne of VA, his nephew Eugene Figurela of PA, extended family as well as many great friends and neighbors.

Funeral services and burial will be private. Friends may call on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
