Obituary of John Scott Hogan

John S. Hogan, (77) of Bristol, formerly of Newington, beloved husband for 43 years of Linda (Arcari) Hogan passed away May 24, 2024 at home surrounded by his family and faithful four legged companion, Gus. 

Born October 4, 1946 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Col. John K. Hogan and Catherine (Kinsella) Hogan. Scott, as those close to him called him, grew up around the world. He spent time living in England, French Morocco, Texas and Virginia where his father was stationed. Scott was a standout athlete playing both football and baseball growing up.  He finally attended Cheshire Academy before his enlistment in the United States Army in 1966. 

Scott served three tours in Vietnam beginning in the 101st Airborne Division for two tours before returning to the United States for flight school. Upon returning to Vietnam for a third tour, he served with the 25th Infantry Division’s First Aviation Brigade as a helicopter pilot. Scott worked his way through the Army ranks beginning his career as a Private and ending as 1st Lieutenant.  Scott was a highly decorated combat Veteran whose heroism earned him many awards including the Distinguished Service Cross (the Army’s second highest military decoration), Bronze Star Medal, and three Purple Hearts.

Later in life Scott continued to enjoy sports by watching and supporting his children and then grandchildren in their various sporting events. He was an unassuming and simple man that loved reading, golfing and history. 

In addition to his beloved wife Linda, John is survived by his son, Scott, and his wife, Alecia, of Farmington; daughter Kelly Mulryan and her husband Colin, of Glastonbury; his grandchildren Tyler, Ali, Emery, Eleanor and Mac; his brother, Sean Hogan and his wife, Jeanne of Colchester; and other close family and friends. Scott was predeceased by his younger brother, William Patrick Hogan and his younger sister, Dorothea Coles. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday May 31st from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.

Scott will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to House of Heroes Connecticut 3342 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT 06518
