Obituary of Terry Elms

Terry Lynn Elms, 62, of South Glastonbury, beloved husband of Marykay (Gonzales) Elms, died Monday, April 30, 2012 after a Valiant battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Born May 15, 1949 in Maryville, Missouri, son of the late Lynn and Norma Jean Elms (Chambers), he had lived in Connecticut for 20 years, most recently in South Glastonbury for the past 12 and a half years. He is survived by two daughters, Catharine and Victoria Elms. He is survived by three brothers, Michael Elms of St. Joseph, Missouri, Rodney Elms of St. Joseph, Missouri, and David Elms of Gower, Missouri. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Terry was an insurance executive working for Royal & Sun Alliance as an International Human Resources Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean and as an Operations Vice President. His most recent position was as a Vice President of Human Resources and Officer of the Company for New London County Mutual. Terry served on several Boards of Directors including, Chairman of NAMIC, Board Member of the Connecticut Fair Plan, and Board Member of Norwich Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a Board Member for many years for Glastonbury Safe Rides. Terry was a cherished volunteer of local sports teams including Glastonbury Renegades, and was a statistician for Glastonbury High School Girls Basketball. Terry served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 3rd at10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury.
